Hi, I'm Steve Perez — owner and project coordinator at AST Cleaning & Restoration here in San Antonio.
I started this company back in 2011 as Alamo Steam Team with a simple idea: provide the kind of deep, honest, thorough cleaning I'd want for my own home. After more than two decades in this industry, I still believe the only way to do this work right is to show up on time, treat every house like it belongs to family, and stand behind the work — every single time.
Over the years, my team and I have earned multiple industry certifications including IICRC Water Damage Restorer, Master Rug Cleaner, NADCA's Air Systems Cleaning Specialist designation, and our Texas Mold Remediation Contractor license. We grew the business carefully, kept our reputation clean, and built up over 859 five-star Google reviews from neighbors who keep calling us back and sending their friends. We evolved into AST Cleaning & Restoration in 2026 to better reflect everything we do today: water damage restoration, fire and smoke cleanup, mold remediation, carpet and upholstery cleaning, area rug and oriental rug cleaning, natural stone restoration, tile and grout, and air duct cleaning.
My wife Laura runs the office, and I work alongside a certified team of professionals who hold themselves to the same standards I do. We're a family-owned, locally-operated, San Antonio business — not a national franchise, not a faceless contractor. When you call, you get us. When something needs to be made right, you don't wait for a corporate office to approve it — we make it right.
If you ever need our help, day or night, our 24/7 emergency line is (210) 599-9726. And if you're not 100% satisfied with our work, we'll re-clean it free or give you your money back. That's the deal. That's how we built this.
Certifications & License
The restoration industry is saturated with fly-by-night companies looking for a quick buck. A lot of the larger national restoration shops have the insurance carrier's best interest in mind — not the homeowner's. We work for the homeowner, their property, and their family. We see the project through start to finish: documented, communicated, and finished right.
Homeowners choose us because we're a real one-stop shop. One point of contact per phase. No subcontractor shuffle. No rushing. The job gets done properly, safely, and accurately — and you return to a home you're proud of.
What I Wish Every Homeowner Knew
Have a written emergency plan. Know where your main water shut-off is, and make sure every family member does too. Don't try to fix the source yourself — turn off the main water supply first, then figure out next steps. Review your insurance coverage terms and get contents coverage. Most homeowners believe they have mold coverage; in reality it's highly unlikely — if you want mold coverage, you typically need premium endorsements on your policy.
A Job I Won't Forget
One job I won't forget is a San Antonio home that took a direct lightning strike. The hit set off a chain reaction the family never saw coming — fire damage, smoke and soot through the whole house, water damage from the firefighting effort, and a structure that wasn't safe to live in for weeks.
We stabilized the property, documented every contents item room by room so nothing got lost in the insurance shuffle, ran the mitigation, handled the smoke and odor, dried it down to spec, and walked the rebuild with the family. We documented the whole project as a 3-part series on our YouTube channel so other San Antonio homeowners could see what a real, full-cycle restoration actually looks like.
The family moved back into a home that was better than before. That's the standard.
